Alkaline vs Alkalized Water: What’s the Difference?

Alkaline water is a hot topic.

It is believed that an alkalized state within the body may assist in disease prevention (notably cancer). And if this is true, it would seem that drinking alkaline water would be of tremendous benefit.

However, not all water is the same. For example, if you were to test the pH of your pool and determine that it was too acidic, you would add chemicals to raise the pH. Therefore the actual water, at the molecular level, has a lower than desired pH, which is then artificially remedied by the introducing chemicals.

This is also the process by which commercially bottled “alkaline” water is brought up to an alkaline pH. Have you ever noticed on the label of an alkaline water bottle? There is an ingredient list! That’s because there are things being added to the water to raise the pH. It is important to note that overconsumption of the added chemicals and/or synthetic minerals can lead to undesireable, unintended consequences for your health.

Ionized, alkalized Kangen water, however, is different at the core. When water comes into a Kangen system and runs over the negatively-charged cathode plates, electrons are donated to those water molecules. As all of us know, a water molecule is made up of 1 oxygen atom and 2 hydrogen atoms.

When an electron is donated to a water molecule, it pops off one of this hydrogen atoms, which now has a neutral charge. When you pop off 2 of these neutrally-charged hydrogen atoms, they will form what’s called diatomic hydrogen molecule.. aka molecular hydrogen or h2. This is the main benefit from our water!

In addition to that, when you pop off one hydrogen atom off of a water molecule, you are left with a negatively-charged hydroxide ion. The more hydroxide ions you have in the water, the more alkalinity of the water rises. This leads to a higher level of pH overall on the water.

The great news is that Kangen water, which is considered ERW, or electrolyzed reduced water can have a high pH without needing to add anything to the water!
